Sikkim Trips Depend on Permits, Altitude, and the Right Route

Sikkim rewards careful planning. A short Gangtok package can cover Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, local sightseeing, and MG Marg in 4 days. A Gangtok-Pelling route adds Kanchenjunga views, waterfalls, monasteries, and the Skywalk. North Sikkim is more adventurous, with Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar Lake, and Yumthang Valley. South and West Sikkim are calmer, with Ravangla, Namchi, and Pelling working well for families and senior travellers.

Most packages start from NJP or Bagdogra and use private vehicle support for transfers. North Sikkim requires special permits and local registered vehicles, and remote stays in Lachen and Lachung are basic compared with city hotels.

Packages include accommodation, daily breakfast, road transfers, tolls, parking, and driver allowances. Nathula Pass, Zero Point, special permits where charged separately, air or train fare, personal expenses, and travel insurance are not included by default.

Why Meet 'N' Greet Travels

We Plan Sikkim Around Permits and Altitude

Sikkim is beautiful, but restricted areas, high altitude, and mountain weather need clear planning before you book.

Permit guidance before travel

Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass, Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar Lake, and some North Sikkim areas require permits or local arrangements with valid ID proof.

Honest North Sikkim expectations

Lachen and Lachung stays are basic but comfortable because they are remote mountain villages. Gurudongmar Lake is very high altitude and not suitable for every traveller.

Routes for every comfort level

Gangtok and Pelling work for most travellers, Ravangla and Namchi are calmer, and North Sikkim is better for adventure-focused travellers.

Clear exclusions

Nathula Pass, Zero Point, personal expenses, insurance, and air or train tickets are separate unless specifically added.

Flexible extensions

You can add Darjeeling, extra Pelling nights, premium Gangtok stays, Nathula Pass, or a slower South Sikkim route based on your travel dates.

Plan Your Trip

When Should You Go?

March – June

Good for pleasant weather, rhododendron blooms, Yumthang Valley, and comfortable sightseeing across Gangtok, Pelling, Ravangla, and Namchi.

October – December

Best for clear mountain views and photography. Kanchenjunga views from Pelling and Ravangla are more reliable in this post-monsoon window.

December – February

Snow may be seen around Tsomgo Lake and higher areas, but it is weather dependent. Road closures can affect North Sikkim and Nathula access.

July – September

Monsoon can bring landslides, low visibility, and road delays. Travel is possible, but restricted-area trips need flexibility.

Note: Gurudongmar Lake is around 17,800 ft and may not suit senior citizens, young children, or travellers with breathing or heart concerns.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which airport or station should I use for Sikkim?

NJP railway station and Bagdogra airport are the common pickup points for current Sikkim packages. Gangtok is around 4 to 5 hours away depending on traffic and road conditions.

Do I need permits for Sikkim?

Permits are required for Tsomgo Lake, North Sikkim areas such as Lachen, Lachung, and Gurudongmar, and optional Nathula Pass. These are arranged locally with valid ID proof.

Is North Sikkim suitable for everyone?

No. North Sikkim is high altitude and remote. Gurudongmar Lake may not be suitable for senior citizens, children below 5, or travellers with breathing or heart issues.

Can I add Nathula Pass?

Yes, Nathula Pass can be added at extra cost, subject to permit availability, weather, road conditions, and operating days.

How many days are enough for Sikkim?

Gangtok can be done in 4 days. Gangtok with Pelling or North Sikkim needs 5 to 6 days. A calmer South-West Sikkim route also works well in 6 days.

Can I customize a Sikkim package?

Yes. You can add Darjeeling, Nathula Pass, extra Pelling nights, premium hotels, or choose a slower route for families and senior travellers.
